| Teddy Dunn |
[Oct. 9th, 2005|02:54 pm] |
So, my friend and I were in the library, procrastinating because Nietzsche is damn hard to understand. Anyway, we went over and started looking at old yearbooks. We end up looking at the one from 1999, which for those of you who don't know, is the year that Teddy Dunn graduated from my school. So, we found his page and everything. He was the captain of the water polo team! There are a bunch of pictures of him wearing nearly nothing (We decided that Logan definitely wins that competition). We also found some pictures of him in a bunch of plays. But, the creme de la creme, was this quote on his senior page:
"What can I say? Sister. Best Friend. Soulmate. You are with me. Thanks for your love."
Hmmm........
Once a sister lover... |

| VM + NYTimes |
[Sep. 25th, 2005|05:43 pm] |
The New York Times mentioned Veronica Mars!
Well, actually, they interviewed Joss Whedon about Serenity, but he managed to slip this little bit in:
Q. With all these sci-fi and horror shows starting this season, do you feel like you missed that boom?
A. I feel like it's a boom that I helped start, but oddly enough, not a boom I was that interested in starting. The only time I've ever heard somebody say, "This is the result of 'Buffy' " and felt actually that it was true, and was really proud of, was "Veronica Mars." Because that's what I was really interested in: the humor and the pathos and the pain, and the heightened reality of high school. And a girl who is just awesome. |

| My First Icon |
[Aug. 17th, 2005|11:15 pm] |
I just felt the need to commemorate this moment in history. I officially made my first icon!
I also used this moment of inspiration to make the name-plates for every girl in my hall. Is it narcissistic that I am in love with my own work? Each sign has a black and white picture of classic screen sirens (the Hepburns, Marilyn, Eva Gardner, etc.) with one of the girls names on it. I hope they all like them! (And in the spirit of my resolution posted below, I will now email myself a copy of each of the pictures as a backup!) |

| Old Computer |
[Aug. 17th, 2005|11:05 pm] |
So, I just found out that the reason that my old computer stopped working was that the hard drive was ruined. I don't understand how this sort of thing happens. I walk away from it, I come back 30 minutes later, and suddenly it's all "whoops, no operating system installed." So, what this means is that I have copies of all my school work saved, but everything else, like all my pictures from China, and much more importantly, all my Veronica Mars stuff, is gone. (wow, that sentence had a lot of commas in it!)
My August 17th Resolution is this (hey, why should January 1st have all of the fun?): I will now make a backup of everything that I will need again that took more than an hour to create or that I cannot live without. If I do not have access to a CD to burn a backup, I will email it to myself, or post it online.
Let's see how well that one sticks! |

| Snickerdoodles |
[Aug. 13th, 2005|10:29 pm] |
|
So, I just made an entire batch of snickerdoodles for no apparent reason. But even more strange than that, my jaw is still wired shut (and will be for the next 3 weeks) so I can't eat them, and I don't think anyone else in my house will eat them. I think I can convince my brother to at least try them, which will probably mean that he will eat them all, but I wish I had some one to give them to who would appreciate them. Plus, I just want someone to tell me that my cooking is good since I can't taste them! Oh well.... |

| Food |
[Aug. 7th, 2005|04:38 pm] |
So, now that I am back at home, I have come across a problem of what to eat. I was thinking that I could post this now, and then you guys could contribute any suggestions that you had...
Right now, I can't bite down and I can't open my mouth wider than a spoon. I also can't use a straw. On Wednesday, they are going to wire my jaw shut so I won't even be able to open my mouth. (Here's hoping that I can use a straw by then.)
I just realized that everything liquid is really sugary. I have been having juice and ice cream and fruit smoothies, but they are all so sweet that now I really want something different. Anyone out there have suggestions?
Oh, and great story---Harvard Pilgrim decided that I was going to become addicted to Vicodin so they won't let me refill the prescription until tomorrow. Even though I am using less of it than perscribed and I still ran out! Why must everything be such an ordeal... |

| Surgery |
[Aug. 7th, 2005|12:28 pm] |
Alright, so I finally went in for surgery on Thursday. This was the surgery that kept being scheduled and then something would come up to prevent it. Like, we set a date with the surgeon, but then the hospital had no room. And then the hospital would only give us an appointment a few days later, so the orthodontist wouldn't be ready. Anyway, through all of this, we finally made it to Thursday. I even went to the pulminologist and otolarygologist to make sure that I was up for the surgery.
So, I arrive at the hospital at 6, which was super early, but not early enough for me to forget how hungry/thirsty I was (you're not allowed to eat/drink anything after 10 PM). We hung around for a while, and then at 7:30, the anesthesiologist to just introduce himself. I already have the IV in, and they are preparing to wheel me into surgery, when this anesthesiologist says that he is cancelling the surgery because he thinks I may have a cardiac problem! I mean, I know I have tons of things wrong with me, but my heart was like to only thing that was healthy. And, if this surgery was cancelled, then I couldn't reschedule until Christmas, which would be too late, because then I couldn't go to China during the summer.
So, my mom started freaking out. I mean, if there had really been a problem she would want it checked out, but this just seemed so ridiculous. Long story short (or shorter), the cardiologist came down and made me do some tests. One of these was having me run on a treadmill. Now, here I was with this IV poking out of my hand dressed for surgery and they are having me run! And then, when I am exhausted, I can't even get a drink of water....
But, after all of this, they decided that I have a heart murmur, which is benign, so there was nothing to stop me from going ahead with surgery. So, 4 hours late, they wheel me in for my surgery.
After that, everything went well. I was actually released on Friday, so I have just been lying around the house since then. Sorry for the super-long update, I just wanted to let all of you know where I had been! |

[Jul. 30th, 2005|11:04 pm] |
Alright, so I have like a million new friends, and I thought I would give a little update just so that any of you who wanted to know more about me could read it at your leisure....
( ...ME... )
A side note for all of you: I am going to be having surgery on Thursday, and I will be in the hospital at least until next Monday. What with all the planning for the surgery, I probably won't have time for the next week to read your LJ's, so if you have time, just comment with a little introduction! |

| Bad Days |
[Jul. 22nd, 2005|11:32 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | depressed | ] | So, today was just one of those days where you wake up and think everything is going to be good, and then by the end of the day, you just are dying for it to be tomorrow so that you can forget all about today. Nothing that big even went wrong! I can't blame this feeling on anything tangible, it's just little things. I was so excited about this set of speakers that I bought for my new computer because I had been wanting them for a while, and now I could afford them. Now today, I was trying to watch a movie and I realized that the little wimpy speakers built into my computer actually have more power. Now, do I actually try to return them to Amazon, or do I just accept the $70 bucks that I spent on them was a waste. And, speaking of my computer... I am a packrat who is always convinced that there might be a use for everything. But my mom likes to tidy, and by tidy, she means throw everything out. So, she got her hands on my new computer box and my iPod box and threw them both out. Now, today when we were filling out the rebate forms, I needed the boxes to get the UPCs. Now its my fault for not knowing better, but this never would have happened if I could just do things the way that I wanted. Anyway, here's to the thought that it is almost a new day! Although, now that I am thinking about it, why is that so special? Maybe I should be hoping for a rest and then a new day after that? What's so special about midnight? |

| APs |
[Jul. 21st, 2005|09:44 pm] |
So, I got my AP scores today. I managed 5s on US History and BC Calc. I got a four on English Lit. I can't help but regret that I didn't take Physics, but in all likelyhood, I would have done horribly. The one thing that really annoys me is that many schools only give credit for math/science courses, not history. Why is science more important? Why do I have to sit through yet another course on American History? Plus, at other schools (here's looking at you, Yale!), if you score a 4 or 5 on History, you get credit, but you only get credit if you get a 5 on sciences. What gives? That means that my Chemistry score doesn't count, and I don't get credit for doing really well in history. Anyway, here's a rundown of the credit that I get:
Yale - 4 semester credits Harvard - 5 1/2 semester credits BC - 10 semester credits Stanford - 14 quarter credits Northwestern - 9 (quarter/semester?) credits UPenn - 3 (semester/year?) credits Johns Hopkins - 14 credits Georgetown - 17 credits |

| Veronica Mars |
[Jul. 20th, 2005|05:24 pm] |
|
I just managed to convert my best friend over to Veronica Mars. I don't understand why she still doubts it when I suggest shows. She spent a year laughing at my Alias obsession, and then watched a couple of the episodes with me and is now a huge fan. Last year, we started watching the second season of the OC, so she ran out and bought the dvd and is now a huge fan. All of her favorite shows are ones that I have introduced her to. Ahh....it doesn't matter, as long as she likes them. I just wish she would understand how much work it takes on my part to get her to watch these shows, when I know that she will love them! |

| Felicity |
[Jul. 19th, 2005|11:43 pm] |
So, I finally watched Felicity! People have been asking me about it for years, and now I can finally say that I have seen it. What's really strange is that Keri Russell really reminds me of Sarah. But what perfect timing! I went to my U Chicago interview and we ended up talking about television. I said that I watched Veronica Mars (which he had never heard of) and the OC. I said that I thought that teenages liked the show because we could all relate to the characters. He is apparently a big fan! And then he asked if I had ever seen Felicity. I could finally say yes, so we had something else to talk about. I guess it is kind of strange that this guy was a fan of the Felicity (and later he told me he obsessively watches Gilmore Girls), but he really reminds me of Noel. He was even an RA when he went to U of C!
Oh, the curiosities of college.... I can't wait to put all of this into a book! |

| | Garden State | ] | So last nights episode was the perfect example of why I like living in a dorm. 9 of us downstairs watching tv, which makes me feel slightly less guilty for not studying enough for my Chinese test.
I don't know what to think abou the actual show though. I am interested in the story lines, but I feel guilty for being dragged in by such obvious gimmicks. But why should I? It is my junky tv that I like to watch.
I really hate it when people get so upset about a tv show being unrealistic. Out of character I can understand, because that's just sloppy writing, but unrealistic? Have you ever watched what Lorelai and Rory eat? I don't see much reality in that. I'm not just talking about weight, but all of those diseases that come from not eating ANY fruits or vegetables. Would it really hurt the writers to through in a carrot, or maybe an apple (well we can't do that, because that's now a sign of pregnancy). |

Her father is intimate friends with the Governator, and worse, she is a Yankees fan. We have up 'til now confined all of our conversations to pleasantries, like "how's math going" or the good old standby "I'm so tired." So imagine my surprise when it turns out that we both love desperate housewives and have recently fallen for Grey's Anatomy. We are now down in the common room every Sunday, screaming loudly at the tv, while every other person in the dorm looks strangely at us. What will I do next year when she isn't here? Who ever thought I would worry about missing Grace? |

| | chipper | ] | Oh, so excited.
I took personal time from my 1st and 2nd period classes on Monday so that I could have enough time to study for my Physics AP, and then I learned that all my other classes were cancelled, so I have no classes on Monday, even if I don't go to my AP. And then now I am learning that on Tuesday I don't have Chinese because of Saturday classes, and then my Physics class got cancelled, and my History paper is due by 5, so we don't have class either. WHich means that I only have 1st and 5th period. Which kind of stinks, because since I am already taking personal time on Monday from English, I definitely can't take it Tuesday, so I still have to get up early. But still--I only have 2 classes in 2 days! |
